Camp Chinqueka -
Celebrating our 50th Summer!! |
Camp Chinqueka boasts a beautiful
lakeside setting on Mt. Tom Pond in the rolling hills of Connecticut's Litchfield
County. Campers stay in one of 14 cabins on the premises. Campers that
attend Chinqueka get to know the caring and experienced staff. 2
counselors live in each cabin with the campers. All of our cabins are
wood sided and have toilets and sinks. Campers shower in one of the
central shower houses. Our activity
areas are scattered about the campus from our waterfront with our fleet of
boats, canoes and sailboats to "Sunnyfield" where our Mini-Bikes
and Go-Kart tracks are located. In between, we have several activity
areas including a Climbing Tower and Zip Line, indoor sport facility,
indoor activity areas for Gymnastics, Computers, Fencing, Photography,
Video, Arts & Crafts, Ceramics, Dance and Drama. At the center of
it all are our many sport courts & fields, including Basketball,
Softball, Soccer and Volleyball.
Kid-friendly and nutritious meals
are served family style in Chinqueka's spacious dining
hall. Counselors dine with and supervise the campers at each meal. In
addition, we have special theme buffet dinners throughout the summer,
many with our brother camp, Awositng.
Life at
Chinqueka is informal and
friendly. We believe it is a good thing to have some
experience in all camp activities. Therefore, every camper is introduced to
every activity during the morning program. In the
afternoon elective periods, the girls choose the activities
they prefer. On Sundays, we
rise a half hour later, breakfast is often served buffet
style from 8:30am to 9:30am and campers and staff may attend
in pajamas and robe if they wish. The weekday program is
suspended, and a somewhat more leisurely but none the
less interesting program of activities is enjoyed. The
afternoon is usually devoted to a swim meet or field
meet.
