Special Events
Each summer, campers get to experience a number of individual
activities. In addition, we offer some special events listed below
to give our camp program some variety. After years of experience in
the camping industry, we know how to make sure that every camper has
as much fun as possible while at Chinqueka!

July
4th BBQ
Each summer, the campers gather with
the
Camp Awosting
boys to celebrate Independence Day
with an old-fashioned BBQ. The kitchen
staff from both camps prepare a special buffet
and the evening is capped off with a Social and
some pick-up games on the ball field. |
Senior
Trips
Each year, the senior campers from both Chinqueka and
Awosting, our brother camp, take a
4-day overnight camping trip to Cape Cod, MA and Lake George, NY.
The excursion to Cape Cod affords campers the opportunity to go
whale watching, enjoy the ocean with a day at the beach with their
camp friends, and learn a little about Cape Cod and its history. The
Lake George trip brings the campers to a beautiful area of upstate
New York where they set up camp, do some white water rafting, and
enjoy some of the many local attractions for summer fun. |
Coed
Activities
The campers from Chinqueka
get frequent chances to visit with the boys of
our brother camp,
Camp Awosting. As seen in this photo from one of
last year's Socials, both camps enjoy an evening
of dancing to the latest hits. D.J.'s are brought
in throughout the summer, and on occasion,
campers get to assist counselors in choosing the
music for the evening. Senior campers get
additional chances to visit with one another at
occasional Senior Movie nights. The girls also
compete against the boys in activity exchanges
such as Archery, Tennis, Sailing Regattas, and
Softball. |
Lake Compounce
Each year, campers that
stay for multiple sessions (4 weeks, 6 weeks, or
8 weeks) participate in special off-camp
activities, allowing for the new session of
campers to arrive. Among the activities are
a visit to Lake Compounce,
one of New England's best amusement
parks. |
Watersports
Day
The fiercest competition
of the summer is Watersports Day, without a
doubt. Chinqueka vs.
Awosting!!. Campers in all age groups
compete as a team to try and win for their tribe,
as well as for their camp. Whether it is in the
long distance swim, the cracker-whistle relay,
the obstacle course, or the traditional War Canoe
race, fun is guaranteed. All participants are
treated to a Watersports Buffet and a Social
between the camps. |
